Irony in the Judicial System PDF Print E-mail

Most people don’t realize that if the FBI comes to your home without a warrant but as part of a criminal investigation and asks you what color underwear you have on, you better either refuse to answer or tell them the truth - regardless of whether the color of your underwear has anything to do with the case or not. Lying to a federal official purportedly acting in the line of duty is a crime - period.

We hear about Patrick Fitzgerald’s high profile cases but the last two, Rod Blagojevich and Scooter Libby, have resulted merely in convictions for lying. How can you know something is a lie unless you know the truth. So if the convictions don’t go beyond lying, what they lied about must not have been a crime in the first place. Roger Clemmons has now been charged with lying to Congress. Lance Armstrong could be next. Now the feds have charged Mexican born actress Fernanda Romero and her American husband, claiming their marriage was a scam to allow her to stay in the country.

Supposedly, they lied to federal agents and on immigration forms - but they are married. So if you cross the border with an AK-47 in the middle of the night, you get free health care and an education. But lie to someone about why you’re here and you may go to prison. Does anybody but me find it a scary irony that we’re putting people in prison for lying to politicians and lawyers?

Needed: Microconservative Activism PDF Print E-mail

The type of activism most desperately needed today is "micro-conservative."  In the simplest terms, this means that those of us who have a conservative mind set or values system need to express our thoughts to our friends and neighbors in spoken and written words, in small yet frequent doses.

It is my belief that all people are conservative about something, and the more we talk, write and read about conservative ideas the more conservative we think. We are not all orators or prize winning authors but most of us have something to say, or an ideal we care deeply about. Express it somehow!

There are many ways for us to express ourselves!

One of my favorites is observational humor. As in “gee I am sure glad that during the toughest of economic time our senators have concerned themselves with whether or not a group of millionaires that play a game for a living are on drugs or not” even the most ardent fans of the game can really care less about this group of elitists, while they are standing in an unemployment line! And we all need to bring these things up every day, in an inquisitive tone with those around us who may have a left leaning tendency.

Another form of micro activism is simply commenting on someone else’s post on any of the social networking sites, blogs or forums. Find some, and develop the habit of participating, simply agree with someone, make a brief observation, and read what others are thinking. This activity will make us all more critical thinkers and can’t help but increase our personal data base on knowledge.

Make other people think! Ask questions, in person, with the written word such as bumper stickers, and tee shirts. This activity needs to be conducted in the true spirit of encouraging other people to think! If the message of the question is “you suck and I’m better” the thought you are trying to foster will not occur. Example: “Why are your boys in D.C. spending our grandchildren broke?” as opposed to “Will that fiscal policy work in your house? For how long? What makes you believe it will work on a grander scale?” Now don’t get me wrong, your liberal friends are still going to think you odd but they are also going to think about the questions, if the questions are not posed as attacks.

Lastly, talk to your children. Explain to them how you feel about all of the issues of our day, and how you see thing playing out, and what your concerns are. Teach your children to think and more importantly teach them of our rich heritage of liberty and personal freedom and the promise of our unencumbered pursuit of happiness. Instill in them the desire to achieve great things, to be people of good character, and to stand up for the things they believe. This must happen if we are to save our way of life!

Angelo Codevilla and "America's Ruling Class" PDF Print E-mail

Absolutely the best article of the last decade regarding the bipartisan ruling elite of the United States. It's a long article (long enough to even warrant a booklet), and worth a full read from beginning to end. Angelo Codevilla, American Ruling Class and the Perils of Revolution in the Weekly Spectator.

A very brief excerpt...(but read the whole thing, especially the part about the "Country Party toward the end):

...Although after the election of 2008 most Republican office holders argued against the Troubled Asset Relief Program, against the subsequent bailouts of the auto industry, against the several "stimulus" bills and further summary expansions of government power to benefit clients of government at the expense of ordinary citizens, the American people had every reason to believe that many Republican politicians were doing so simply by the logic of partisan opposition. After all, Republicans had been happy enough to approve of similar things under Republican administrations. Differences between Bushes, Clintons, and Obamas are of degree, not kind. Moreover, 2009-10 establishment Republicans sought only to modify the government's agenda while showing eagerness to join the Democrats in new grand schemes, if only they were allowed to. Sen. Orrin Hatch continued dreaming of being Ted Kennedy, while Lindsey Graham set aside what is true or false about "global warming" for the sake of getting on the right side of history. No prominent Republican challenged the ruling class's continued claim of superior insight, nor its denigration of the American people as irritable children who must learn their place. The Republican Party did not disparage the ruling class, because most of its officials are or would like to be part of it.
